PYT '07 Presbyterian Youth Triennium 2007
Adult Advisors & Parents

We've tried to look ahead and anticipate some of the questions that Adult Advisors (adults who accompany youth participants to the Triennium) and parents have regarding the Presbyterian Youth Triennium! We know that both have invested time, money and effort in getting young people to this amazing event.

What Parents of Triennium Participants Can Expect?
  • An event that is planned with great care and with the safety in mind. Our Triennium staff undergo background checks, youth orientation and Sexual Misconduct and Abuse Prevention before the event begins.
  • An event that is geared for young people. The schedule, content, illustrations and atmosphere are designed and implemented with young people in mind.
  • A Web site where, during the event, you can go online and see images from worship, participant updates and participant responses.
  • A registration fee that includes safe and comfortable housing, great food, a t-shirt and programmatic pieces that will inspire your teen!
Some suggestions for parents:
  • Please read the Guidelines for Community and the event Covenant carefully before you and your teen sign the form. Be aware of the behavioral expectations of youth and adult participants (such as cell phone policy, sleeping arrangements, substance abuse). Be aware that IF the Triennium staff determines that your child must leave the event this is at your expense.
  • Please limit your cell phone calls to your teen during the event. Youth and adult participants have the best and most profound Triennium experience when they are allowed to truly live with their presbytery delegation, when they learn to rely on the accompanying youth and adults. If possible – we suggest you not place calls to your child during the event.
  • If your child becomes ill or is injured there is a very intricate Pastoral Care and Medical strategy that will follow. If you receive a phone call or email from your child telling you that he/she is ill, homesick or wants to come home PLEASE call the main office and ask to be connected to our Community Life office. We will work with you to assess the situation. Many times the sick, homesick or overwhelmed youth participant simply needs some attention or pastoral care. It is our goal to help EVERY young person enjoy the full event.
  • If you teen is sick before the event or when the presbytery delegation departs from "home" please do not send your teen to the Triennium. We have learned that youth (and adult) participants who come ill to the event simply remain ill. The event can be quite overwhelming for a healthy person let alone a teenager struggling with strep throat, acute bronchitis or a bad injury.
  • Be in contact with your church pastor, educator or youth director for financial support! We have found that almost EVERY congregation is thrilled to have a young person attend the Triennium. They are always willing to help raise funds, offer scholarship or help in any way they can. Don't be afraid to ask!
  • The Presbyterian Youth Triennium is an event designed to help young people who are ACTIVE in their church, MATURE in their faith and READY for a large group conference, deepen their spiritual commitment. It is a great place for a young person who has already expressed a commitment to Jesus Christ and to the church. The Triennium is not designed to BRING young people to faith in Jesus Christ – we believe, as Presbyterian and Reformed people that this is MOST faithfully done in the home congregation with youth and adults who will consistently accompany your child.
  • Be sure to consult the packing list so that your teen remembers his/her important items! Don't forget prescription medications, sunscreen, WALKING SHOES, TOWELS, a FAN, A BIBLE and emergency cash.
  • Please be sure to include medical insurance information in the appropriate spaces on the registration form! We will need your policy number and insurance company name. If you do not have insurance please talk with your presbytery registrar in advance. Triennium participation is NOT dependent on having insurance but it does help us to know in advance so that we can make sure you and we are covered.
